DLMS/UID MIGRATION

The purpose of this page is to identify how MMS is affected by the government-wide MILS (Military Standards Systems) to DLMS (Defense Logistics Management System)/UID (Unique Identification) migration effort.

Migration Approach

Development to accommodate this migration will be based on accomplishing the required changes with the least amount of impact to the existing application, the current change-request time schedules and the users. The goal is to efficiently complete all modifications while maximizing the utilization of current resources, developer skills, and user knowledge. This approach will require less testing and keep user training to a minimum.

Programming of migration modifications will be accomplished concurrently with existing maintenance and resulting releases. Migration modifications will be invisible to the user, as MMS will continue to produce and read standard MILS formats.

A baseline will be established prior to execution of DLMS/UID modifications. During the migration period, only critical updates to the baseline will be accomplished.

Completion of modifications to support DLMS and UID will be accomplished in a phased approach. At any point that migration modifications require full control of the development project, a "brown out" period will be set until all migration modifications have been completed and fully certified.
